Newsletter - Aug 2019

Updated: Aug 12, 2019

Welcome to the PDCA newsletter and we hope you are all enjoying the summer! Firstly thank you to everyone who has signed up to our mailing list. (If you haven't signed up yet, you can do so here.)

Over the past few months the committee has concentrated on maintenance and improvement work. This included a "fix it" day to sort out some niggling little problems and any health and safety issues, followed by a couple of days repairing, strengthening and replacing parts of the floor.

A big "Thank You!" goes out to Niall, Mike and Brian, who spent their weekend carrying out and completing the work to repair the floor!

Over the next few months we are hoping to get the toilets refurbished and to paint the main hall.

The Sports and Social Club have a great new look snooker room that they’ve recently refurbished. Click here for more details

The hall is busy with classes and events and you can find out what is happening on both our website (www.pathhead.info) and on Facebook (Pathhead & District Village Hall).

We are also looking to be involved in the Midlothian Science Festival in October and are planning some village social events for the autumn.

AGM

It is our AGM on September 5th at 19:30 and we would welcome feedback, ideas and any help that villagers can give us. We are always looking for new members, so please come along...we'd love to meet you!

Events

We are currently planning a number of potential events for the latter part of the year. See below for a general overview, more details to follow...

  • The Pathhead and District Horticultural Society 67th Annual Flower Show (Saturday 31st August)

  • PYP Talent show (26th September)

  • Two science festival events (details TBC)

  • Big Band night (29th November)

  • Pathhead Players are performing Sinbad the Sailor (3rd to 6th December)

  • Cool Yule (14th December)

Survey

Thank you to all those who took the time to fill out the online survey, and the paper one at the school fair. We have collected feedback from villagers on the use, facilities and possible future of the Hall. Here are a few highlights:

  • Most people were aware of the hall, had used it facilities at some time. whether on a regular basis or to attend social actives

  • Only about half of the people who replied knew about the website or the Facebook page.

  • Most, but not all know the hall is run by volunteers and has to support itself financially.

  • The vast majority of people would like to see the hall developed further. Some options suggested included:-

  1. a coffee shop

  2. better front and better accessibility

  3. better decoration and facilities

  4. more (smaller) rooms to hire

  • One concern is that many people note they don't always know what is on in the hall. We use all the means we can viably use to communicate, so we would welcome and further thoughts or feedback on that.

...and finally!

The members of the PDCA committee are all volunteers who give their time and expertise to maintain the hall, organise bookings and classes, and plan social events to fundraise for the hall.

We would like to thank our chairman, Neil Heydon-Dumbleton, who has recently decided to step down after many years as a valued committee member.

In addition to chairing our monthly PDCA meetings, Neil has dedicated a great deal of time and effort to all aspects of running the hall, including grant applications, fundraisers, maintenance, keeping on top of the Health and Safety regulations and generally being on call for anything hall related!

Thanks Neil, hope you can chill out now with a cold glass of beer and get a well earned rest! :)

If you would like to join the PDCA or have any ideas for events or classes, or for the future of the hall itself, please come along to our AGM on the 5th Sept. Alternatively you can get in touch with us here.

Thanks for reading!
